The project “KYIV AVANTGARDE OF THE 1960s: Borys Liatoshynskyi’s School”

The presentation of the project “KYIV AVANTGARDE OF THE 1960s: Borys Liatoshynskyi’s School” took place at DIM Master Klass (57B Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Street) on 26th January 2018.

At the end of December 2017 with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the Ukrainian pianist Yevhen Gromov along with the NGO ART FORUM and DIM Master Klass has issued a unique musical anthology containing 4 CDs with recordings of the most important piano works. They were created by the young Kyiv composers-neophytes, who were students of Professor Borys Liatoshynskyi’s Class – Leonid Grabovskyi, Vitalii Godziatskyi, Valentyn Sylvestrov, and a few younger ones – Yevgen Stankovych, Petro Solovkin, Sviatoslav Krutykov, and Volodymyr Zahortsev…

Most of the pieces are the world premiere recordings.

In fact, this is one of the first attempts of a systematic approach to the representation of the Ukrainian modern music of the second half of the 20th century. The project organizers hope that the anthology will interest not only such specialists as musicologists and cultural historians but also help the Ukrainian and foreign listeners to get acquainted with the phenomenon of Borys Liatoshynskyi’s School. It should be noted that the publication is non-commercial, and it will be submitted to the musical establishments of Ukraine and foreign institutions – ordinary libraries and sound libraries, cultural funds, etc. in the near future.

On 26th January 2018, the presentation at DIM MK was attended by the main figures of the anthology of Yevgen Gromov – composers Leonid Grabovskyi, Vitalii Godziatskyi, Valentyn Sylvestrov, Yevgen Stankovych, Sviatoslav Krutykov, widow of Volodymyr Zahortsev, Margaryta Tymofiivna, and friends of the family of Petro Solovkin.

During the presentation, Yevgen Gromov performed a short solo kaleidoscope programme and present the fragments of works included in the musical content of his own author’s anthology.
